Harry Vardon is widely recognized as bringing golf into the modern age. His grip and his swing, along with his thought processes and strategies are used by many of today’s foremost golf professionals and amateurs. His moniker of “The Stylist”, which replaced his name in many of the publications of the day, was well earned. Mr. Vardon brought plus fours, or knickers, onto the golf course eliminating dew-soaked and heavy trousers. Suits and sport coats were considered a must for gentlemen of the era on the course. Mr. Vardon designed his own sport coat of tweed with a half belt in the back and bi-swing shoulders allowing for easier movement for a more comfortable swing.
“The Stylist,” is a name well earned and deserved for Mr. Vardon.
